Third meat-free day in a row!

July 21, 2008

Wow, I can hardly believe it but I have had three meat-free days in a row! No wild cravings or anything. Although today I do want caesar salad with bacon bits and will likely have that for dinner. I had a salad with chick peas and a piece of veg pizza for dinner last night.

Now, if I can just stop eating those damn butter tarts Deb made…

Update

July 20, 2008

Well, I managed another meat free day yesterday!! Yah for me. I did have prawns for dinner but as I have mentioned they don’t have the acid that causes inflammation. However as time goes by I may try to eliminate all animal protein. Bacon will be the hardest but I digress. It looks like today is shaping up to be another meat free day. I have had no major cravings for anything meat related which is really good. We are going to a bbq this afternoon but burgers won’t tempt me. I will eat salad and potato salad that Deb made.

On another note we went out for dinner with Carol from SAINTS. She was telling us how cows cry real tears. This really affected me. I think we see the expression of emotion as strictly a human thing but apparently not. More thought needs to be given about animals and our effect on them.

meat-free day

July 19, 2008

Well, I didn’t have any meat yesterday. I had veggie soup from the other day, eggs and mashed potatos. It was a good day. I was craving an Italian sub from subway but managed to talk myself out of it because I knew it would not taste as good as I thought it would.

We are going out for dinner tonight and I will likely stick with seafood or salad. So far meat free today as well!

More thinking…

July 15, 2008

Well I have done more thinking about my goal of becoming vegetarian and how I am going to get there. One of the problems I having right now is that I don’t have enough of a veggie repertoire, cooking wise, to be able to do this effectively. My new cookbooks have arrived so I am looking forward to trying out some new recipes. I have a feeling I will be eating alot of egg plant! Meat substitutes don’t do it for me either. I am not sure why but I just don’t like them and they leave me cold and wanting the real thing.

As I try to increase the number of veggie recipes I am going to try and use meat only as a condiment rather than the focal point of meals. i think this is much more doable for me right now. Or trying to be meatless on some days. I have not had any meals in the last couple of weeks where meat has been the main part of it. I have had lots of salads where bacon has been a condiment or little bits of chicken here and there. The one exception may be the burger I had the other day.

So, onward I go…

July 9, 2008

Well, I did ok yesterday. I did have salad (with a bit of bacon) again as it was so freakin hot. I avoided the chicken and the hot dogs – two of my favourite things.

Today I intend to have meat free as discussed yesterday. I will not be eating steak with everyone and will instead of grilled eggplant – which I love. Deb is also going to make her killer potato salad.

That is it for now, I have a job interview this afternoon. Wish me luck!

July 8, 2008

Well yesterday ended up being an ok day food wise. I did have a little bacon in my caesar salad but that was all the meat I ate. We are still working through that big bag of romaine so I will likely have salad again today as it seems to be agreeing with me ok for the moment. I may also have some chicken today.

Tomorrow my mother will be here and we are having steaks on the bbq. Well, I am not having steak on the bbq. I am having egg plant on the bbq. So tomorrow should be a meat free day for me!

change of plans for today…

July 7, 2008

Well, I definately will not be eating anything that has fibre in it today! I am paying big time for the daal from yesterday. Still not sure what else will be on the agenda for meals today as I am really not feeling well. I had a piece of toast with peanut butter for breakfast and then all hell broke loose.

We now have a guy here cleaning the carpets. He was having a hard time with the pictures we have up on wall. We have only feminist art in our house. We purchased some prints from a friend of mine who does nude photograpy and said he was not sure he could handle them. Get a life.

July 7, 2008

Well, we did not end up going out for dinner as Deb was too hot after going to the park. I went and got take out instead. It was great. I ate daal and eggplant and some rice. I did not eat any meat – and I love butter chicken.

Not sure what the plan is today yet. I may have salad again as we have a large bag of romaine we need to eat. It may be too warm to make soup. I can’t wait for my new cookbooks to arrive!

July 6, 2008

So I ended up having caesar salad with bacon bits in it. It was really good and did not wreak havoc with my digestive system. This is a really good sign. I also had a baked potato with a little bit of bacon on it but didn’t eat it all as I was full from the salad.

Today I am either going to make my soup or I am going to get some daal. It will be a meat free day I have decided. Now, I am off to poach eggs for breakfast.

July 5, 2008

Well yesterday was ok. We were pretty stressed out because of Madison but she continued to improve all day. But I was really tired and did not feel like cooking so I ended up having left over beef stroganoff. I am done with it now. Today the plan is to either make my soup or have a salad and a baked potato for dinner. Dinner is where I really struggle with the meat choice but I think it should be ok today. If we have caesar salad there may be a bit of bacon in it but not alot. I may choose a green salad with chick peas and my most favourite thing in the world: blue cheese dressing!
